On the morning of 24 July 2026, Sai Dong Urban Primary School organised a pilot Mathematics lesson using the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) approach for Grade 2 students, delivered by Ms Nguyen Thu Tra. The lesson was part of the school's professional development programme to further strengthen bilingual education while providing students with opportunities to learn subject content through English in a natural and effective way.

With the topic "Spheres and Cylinders (Lesson 1)," the teacher applied the CLIL approach to connect mathematical knowledge with the use of English throughout the learning activities. Through visual teaching materials, familiar real-life objects, interactive games, and a variety of learning tasks, students not only explored the characteristics of three-dimensional shapes but also expanded their vocabulary, practised language structures, and developed their English communication skills within the context of the lesson.

Throughout the lesson, students actively observed, discussed, asked questions, and presented their ideas in English under the teacher's guidance. The balanced integration of Mathematics content and language created a positive learning environment, helping students develop logical thinking, strengthen their communication skills, and become more confident in using English during the learning process.

The lesson clearly demonstrated the effectiveness of the CLIL approach in integrating subject content and language, enabling students to develop subject knowledge, English communication skills, and collaborative skills at the same time. Following the lesson, the School Leadership Team and teachers engaged in discussions, evaluations, and professional sharing on the implementation of CLIL-oriented learning activities. Insights and feedback from teaching practice will serve as an important foundation for teachers to further innovate lesson organisation, enhance the effectiveness of integrated teaching, and support students’ comprehensive development of both language and subject knowledge.
